Elisabeth Holmes Amazing Invention/ story

This Woman Invented a Way to Run 30 Lab Tests on Only One Drop of Blood

The thing that she is holding is the amount of blood she needs
to perform up to 70 tests!

Elizabeth Holmes ambition was to work with health care. She dropped out of Stanford university at 30 years of age to work with a company called Theranos, a health care technology company. Her goal was to make health care accessible and cheap enough for everyone and when it matters most. She also invented a way to use only 1 drop of blood to perform up to 70 tests, including genetic samples. She launched the company at the age of 19, and it is now spreading out over shops like Walgreen's.

Elisabeth said a billion tests are done in the united states, but too many are done in the emergency room. She said that if you do these tests earlier, you may be able to intervene with the problem before they needed to go to hospital. IT would be more comfortable and safer, but its biggest benefit would be that it could save lives.

She makes these opportunities come at a lower price, so everybody can afford them. She used fertility testing as an example. She mentioned that would pay out of their pocket,
and that the tests can cost as much as $2000. Theranos then lowered the price right down to $35, so the large majority of patients can afford the test.

And now you can do all this just with 1 drop of blood, thanks to Elisabeth Holme's ingenious invention and with the help of Theranos.

Theranos' Nanotainer holds just one drop of blood.
(0.5 inches)

Why Elizabeth Holmes started Theranos
When Elizabeth was 10, she was living with her uncle. He loved the beach and loved spending the summer holidays with her and her brother. One day, her uncle was diagnosed with skin cancer, and worse, it had already spread. The illness all of a sudden became brain cancer and it went into his bones. She sadly never got to say goodbye.

She used this incident as a reason why she started Theranos, now worth 9 billion dollars.

the problem Elizabeth identified with her uncle's illness is that we usually diagnose disease when the person showing symptoms decides to get them checked out by a doctor. More often than not it is too late.

Elizabeth said that she wants to provide everyone with cheaper, easy and efficient access to your health information, allowing them to treat a serious illness that they might have before it spreads, so you can give them more time to help.

My Hobbies and some Funny Stories Behind Them

I thought you might like to know what I like to do in my free time, so I created this blog for anyone who is interested.

ROCK CLIMBING is one of my favorite sports.

It fills me with so much adrenalin and when you reach the top, you stare down at everybody below you and realize how high up you are! Unfortunately, we have not found a center in NY, NJ and Manhattan, so If you know a place in any of these locations, post it on my comments please, for I will be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GRATEFUL!!

BE SCARED

OR BE A COWARD!
(I use the fake ones, so I am a coward also)

Tackle rugby is another one of my favorite hobbies. At my old school, we weren't allowed to because we were girls. We even formed a protest band in grade 3 to try and convince the teachers, but it didn't work. Here is what I felt like when I was playing touch...

I'm going to get her...

I'm going in...
I got her!

Oh, it was TOUCH rugby.

Cricket is another one of my favoured hobbies, but I never really liked it until I joined an under 13 boy's team, which was coached by a retired cricketer (not in the really competitive games). I was the only girl in the team, and 1 of the 2 girls playing in the WHOLE LEAGUE. You would imagine that I was proud, but I actually felt the opposite. Since I had about zero experience with hard, non-plastic balls, I ended up a horrid batter and an OK bowler. But it turned out that I wasn't bad at fielding. In fact, I am gratified to say that I was quite good. I managed to stop many of the balls that came flying towards me, but mot catch them. I helped others score run-outs, but I never did one myself. In fact, I copped a bad injury to my left hand when batting, and 2 weeks later, a broken arm. The broken arm came as a cruel punishment for playing on a swing that went around in a circle instead of backwards and forwards. You could say that I was off to a bad start.

I did get one wicket, though!! I managed to actually bowl straight, and the guy who was batting went for a six, but failed. The ball wet slap bang onto his shin-pad, meaning that his leg was before the wicket. I had no idea that this actually got people out, so I remained nonchalant at the beginning. Then my brother tackled me to the grass and cheered and the umpire raised a finger, which I recognised as the out symbol. After that I cheered, but still asked how I got him out. The umpire said an LBW (Leg Before Wicket). I the realised that his leg was blocking the wicket, which was punishable by being sent off the pitch. So yeah. That is my cricket story
