Elisabeth Holmes Amazing Invention/ story

This Woman Invented a Way to Run 30 Lab Tests on Only One Drop of Blood

The thing that she is holding is the amount of blood she needs
to perform up to 70 tests!

Elizabeth Holmes ambition was to work with health care. She dropped out of Stanford university at 30 years of age to work with a company called Theranos, a health care technology company. Her goal was to make health care accessible and cheap enough for everyone and when it matters most. She also invented a way to use only 1 drop of blood to perform up to 70 tests, including genetic samples. She launched the company at the age of 19, and it is now spreading out over shops like Walgreen's.

Elisabeth said a billion tests are done in the united states, but too many are done in the emergency room. She said that if you do these tests earlier, you may be able to intervene with the problem before they needed to go to hospital. IT would be more comfortable and safer, but its biggest benefit would be that it could save lives.

She makes these opportunities come at a lower price, so everybody can afford them. She used fertility testing as an example. She mentioned that would pay out of their pocket,
and that the tests can cost as much as $2000. Theranos then lowered the price right down to $35, so the large majority of patients can afford the test.

And now you can do all this just with 1 drop of blood, thanks to Elisabeth Holme's ingenious invention and with the help of Theranos.

Why Elizabeth Holmes started Theranos
When Elizabeth was 10, she was living with her uncle. He loved the beach and loved spending the summer holidays with her and her brother. One day, her uncle was diagnosed with skin cancer, and worse, it had already spread. The illness all of a sudden became brain cancer and it went into his bones. She sadly never got to say goodbye.

She used this incident as a reason why she started Theranos, now worth 9 billion dollars.

the problem Elizabeth identified with her uncle's illness is that we usually diagnose disease when the person showing symptoms decides to get them checked out by a doctor. More often than not it is too late.

Elizabeth said that she wants to provide everyone with cheaper, easy and efficient access to your health information, allowing them to treat a serious illness that they might have before it spreads, so you can give them more time to help.
